Better late than never….Here’s my take on some of the performances that stood out:
Janet Jackson - Medley of her hits
Ok. First thing I noticed, JJ was lookin a little heavier than what I’m used to! And that seemed to slow her down a bit, nonetheless loved her performance. Nevermind the obvious lip syncing, her performance was awesome. The ‘ Together Again’ was beautiful (obviously meant for MJ).
Shakira – Give It To Me
One of my favorite performances. Liked how she sang Lil’ Wayne’s part. The dancers were on point, choreography was just right and she aint too bad for a live singer, unlike she-who-will-not-be-named.
Rihanna – Wait Your Turn/ Hard
Oh boy….dressed like she’s going to rock the stage but as usual…it’s just style over substance. ON TO THE NEXT ONE!
Lady Gaga – Bad Romance
Predator couture is in?! She definitely brought a lot of enthusiasm to her set. The fire / piano part was neat.
Mary J. Blige – I AM
Loved that her set was simple. As usual, she sounded fantastic- one of the best performances of the night.
Whitney Houston – I Didn’t Know My Own Strength.
Loves Whitney but why did it sound like she was talking, instead of singing? That bothered me but overall, she did well.
Alicia Keys – Sleeping With A Broken Heart.
*sigh* dancing is not for everyone…Alicia’s performance was decent but her dancing was not a good look. And the male dancer was a bit too much, didn’t know whether to watch him or watch her.
Jennifer Lopez – Louboutins
How do you manage to fall on stage, singing a song about Louboutins but you’re wearing sneakers? Anyway, JLO gets mad props for getting up faster than the speed of sound and making it look like the fall was part of her choreography!
Jay Z ft Alicia Keys – Empire State of Mind
Good performance. The background was a little distracting though. Mr. Carter has great stage presence (but the hand in the pocket thing didn’t sit right with me) and looked very dapper. Alicia’s vocal’s were on point. Can’t lie, I was looking out for Lil’ Mama- I had hoped she would come out again!
